Die Ergebnisse dieser Forschung berucksichtigt der Ingenieur in Deutschland allerdings zur Zeit noch selten bei seinen praktischen Festigkeitsrechnungen. Uber diese Erweiterung der Festigkeitslehre fehlt im deutschsprachigen Raum eine zusammenfassende Darstellung. Ich wollte mit diesem Buch dazu beitragen, diese Lucke zu schliessen und das Interesse fur dieses Gebiet zu fordern. Warum ist diese Erweiterung uberhaupt fur den Ingenieur von Bedeutung, der durch Generationen hindurch Maschinen, Fahrzeuge und Bauwerke meist nur auf Grund von Festigkeitsrechnungen ent warf, bei denen er elastisches Werkstoffverhalten voraussetzte? Es gibt hierauf drei Antworten: Erstens kann guy in der klaRsischen Festigkeitslehre nicht berucksichtigen, dass die im allgemeinen hoch gradig statisch unbestimmten Konstruktionen weit uber ihre elasti sche Grenzlast hinaus belastet werden konnen, bevor sie zusammen brechen, und dass diese Uberlastbarkeit je nach dem Einzelfall sehr verschieden ist. Die einzelnen Teile einer auf Grund von elastizitats theoretischen Rechnungen entworfenen Konstruktion haben additionally ganz verschiedene Sicherheiten gegenuber dem Zusammenbruch. Der Ent wurf nach der Plastizitatstheorie fuhrt dagegen zu einer Konstruktion mit gleicher Sicherheit ih1er Teile gegenuber dem Zusammenbruch, das heisst zu einer besseren Ausnutzung des fabrics. Zweitens sind die Rechnungen nach der Elastizitatstheorie insofern schon unreali stisch, als sie die Plastizierung des Werkstoffs an Stellen mit Span nungskonzentrationen nicht berucksichtigen.
